The Zig Zag

I had a teacher who was big on universal symbols.  For the longest time it was always the spiral as far as I was concerned.
But lately it's been the zig zag.  I've heard it symbolizes the serpent, the mountains, the path we take in life and the ups and downs in a marriage so I guess meaning really is in the eye of the beholder
