An Art Making Adventure in Oaxaca Mexico

Total cost for the trip is $1,500 and includes:

- 8 nights 9 days lodging at the beautiful Casa Colonial.  Will include pick up and transfer from the airport to the Casa which is a short walk from the zocalo in Oaxaca city. Price is for a lovely private  room with a private bath. Should your spouse or partner wish to go but not take the journaling class we, can arrange a supplemental rate including lodging, food, and some trips.
-2 Meals Daily - A Oaxacan style breakfast (think hot chocolate, good coffee, loads of fresh fruit,  huevos ranchero, mexcian pastries and more) each morning and a simple, nutritious lunch or dinner depending on our plans for the day.  (We will be able to arrange a third meal at the casa for you or you have the option of going into Oaxaca City and enjoying a meal at any one of a number of world famous eateries ).

-3 - 4 hours of Daily Art instruction with your erudite and gifted instructor Jill Cardinal. This  will include guided meditations, demonstrations, technique sharing, open studio time,  presenting to each other and field work during which we'll go out into the markets and town squares to gather ephemera and record our impressions.  Expect to leave with many completed journal pages, several small books ,  a whole host of new techniques and ideas, and a deeper sense of yourself and your purpose as a creative soul.

-Many art materials will be provided however we are asking everyone to bring their own essential art making kit as well as some materials for sharing (favorite ephemera pages, set of rubber stamps, favorite acrylic paint etc.we'll provide you with a list..)

-Pre trip journalling exercises, and book created by Jill just for this trip.  Expect to recieve this in January of 2012.  Will allow you to start gathering materials and planning for the trip.  Participants will be asked to bring some  prepared pages with them.

-Optional Daily Excursions.  We recognize that some people may want to stay close by the Casa and relax and work on their art while others might be raring to go to see the sights and sounds Oaxaca has to offer. Our most excellent adventure allows you to do either. We'll have  daily excursions that will include the  opportunities to explore world class museums of prehispanic art, the amazing churches and cathedrals of downtown Oaxaca, a totally low environmental impact green papermaking factory, the  Oaxacan botanical gardens, another world class museum, this one devoted to textiles, the colorful food markets and more .  There will be ample time for shopping, photography ,exploring, and soaking up the culture on your own or in the company of your fellow art adventurers.  There is so much to get to know in the city of Oaxaca.

-Full Day Excursion to the weaving town of Teotitlan de Valle & the community of Mitla . Get a feel for village life in Oaxaca and practice our journalling and observation skills.  We'll visit a local market, be welcomed into the homes of several craftspeople where we'll learn about natural dyeing techniques, loom weaving, and if we are lucky candle making.  Also we'll visit two 17th century churches and enjoy some fine local cuisine.

-Amazing celebratory meal prepared especially for us where we'll learn about an indigenous food cuisine that goes back thousands of years. We'll taste some of the seven moles  and we'll have the chance to eat chapulines -( a Oaxacan specialty of fried grasshoppers with lime juice) and sample local mezcal.  " Eat foods you have never had before and you will create art like you have never made before".  It's just a theory but we could experiment on ourselves.

-Post trip reunion where we'll share photos and work both online and in person.

-Transfer back to airport.

-You will be responsible to cover your transportation to and from Oaxaca City, costs for one meal per day, any alchoholic beverages you'd like, and any shopping purchases, and art supplies you purchase in Oaxaca.

Space is limited to ten participants.  A $500 deposit is required to hold your space.   Final $1,000 payment is due by Feb 10.  Refunds for cancellation will only be made if someone takes your place on the trip. Please be committed to this trip.
-Should you wish to extend your trip, we can arrange accomadations and tours....
