As always, lots of street art worth recording in Oaxaca. Sometimes it's a fine line between wall art and a business graphic - Click here for my updated Street Art Album.

Street Art Oaxaca
As usual, one doesn't have to go too far in searching for inspiring art in Oaxaca. Never mind the galleries, museums, printmaking collectives, and edgy shops, the streets themselves are full of it. And this isn't Madison Ave. advertising. Although, in fall of 2016 I saw more graffiti than I have in the past and there have recently been annoying incidents of el gobierno painting over some really magnificent street pieces, street art is alive and well in Oaxaca.
I was sorry to have missed street artists gone gallery darling of the Oaxaca underground, Lapiztola Collective's show at IAGO (the graphic arts center which is part coffeeshop, part art library, part very cool space). A play on the spanish words for pencil and pistol, these art toting politicos have some hard hitting truths to speak but they remind us that the world is beautiful too. They were literally scraping the work off the walls when I got there.

Street Art in San Francisco
We all know it's a small world out there. And globalization is for real. Case in point,
Oaxacan artist Yescka, whose store and workshop we always visit when we are in Oaxaca, will be having a show in San Francisco. Yeska really made his mark during the protests of 2006 and has continued his smart, streetwise commentary on everything ranging from politics, capitalism, colonialism, and contemporary culture. We are big admirers of his work and curious to see how spending time in the State will influence him. California peeps, this is your chance to get a taste of Oaxacan street art.

Happy Valentine's Day
Happy Valentine's Day
Or as they say in Mexico, Feliz Dia De Amor y Amistad (Happy Day of Love and Friendship) because the Mexican psyche does not want anyone to be left out....
Yes, Mexico and her people, for sure, have a little piece of my heart.
Top and bottom image from the church at Teotitlan de Valle.....Both hearts have flowers sprouting from them! :)

Revolutionary at work!
Young Oaxacan printmaker Cesar Chavez has been kind enough to invite us to visit his printmaking collective in Oaxaca.

Street Art in Oaxaca
Wowza....here's a link to the Insider's Guide to Oaxaca - it's a photo filled post on street art in OAX which totally gives you and idea for the depth and breadth. Last time I was in Oaxaca, I drove through a part of town that was just full of mural after mural. I think we'll have Pablo take us there on the next art tour. Drive by art touring.
