The Many Lives of Frida Kahlo
My friends are a riot. Check out this funky little handmade doll they found cruising the Goodwill store, fondly known as "The Bins" up in Portland. Apparently shopping the Bins is halfway between an endurance type sporting event and flea market thrifting. Hounds that they are, they couldn't resist picking this up for me and adding a much needed skirt. Currently sitting happily on top of my piano.
Frida is a cultural icon and here's a fun story from Latino USA about the Frida Barbie doll in which there are intricate discussions of whether Mattel went far enough with her unibrow and why you can't purchase Frida Barbie in Mexico. Worth a listen.
